Chicago, IL bodies get more beautiful with CoolSculpting treatment

Countless women and men believe they need to lose weight, when what they really desire is to lose inches, for toned body contours. CoolSculpting treatment can be a great solution for those at or near healthy body weight, but with stubborn zones of fat that resist sensible eating and exercise. This noninvasive, nonsurgical fat reduction system is available at Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery in Chicago, IL.

Fundamentals of CoolSculpting

CoolSculpting is based on the concept that fat freezes at a higher temperature than water. In a carefully controlled process, targeted areas are cooled to a temperature that crystallizes fat but is not low enough to harm skin and other organs, which are comprised largely of water. Treatment destroys fat cells, and over time they are harmlessly metabolized and eliminated by the lymphatic system.

The adult human body does not produce new fat cells (when you gain weight, existing cells expand). Thus, fat cells destroyed by CoolSculpting treatment are gone for good. Results are long-term, with healthy weight maintenance. If you add pounds in the future, they will be distributed more evenly, rather than concentrated in treated areas.

Does CoolSculpting really work?

Losing unwanted fat and inches without drugs, needles, cutting, sutures, an extended recovery period, or scars may sound too good to be true, but with CoolSculpting it is true.

Consider this compelling data:

CoolSculpting received initial FDA clearance in 2010 for flanks (“love handles”), with approval for many additional areas since that time.

CoolSculpting’s parent company, Allergan, is a trusted global leader in pharmaceuticals, medical devices, biologics, surgical and regenerative healthcare products, and aesthetic medicine.

More than three million CoolSculpting procedures have been performed in over 80 countries.

Average fat loss in a treated area is 20 percent or more. Treatment can be repeated for additional reduction. The patient satisfaction rate is high. More than seven out of every ten patients say they’d do it again.

CoolSculpting Treatment: Chicago, IL dermatologist explains the procedure

With a variety of applicators, Dr. Jonith Breadon and her team at Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery can treat virtually any area of the body with CoolSculpting. Larger regions such as the abdomen or sides take about an hour, while thighs, upper arms, and double chin require less treatment time. Multiple areas can be addressed in one session.

Once the doctor has performed an examination to be sure you are a suitable candidate and talked with you about reasonable expectations, your appointment is scheduled. No pre-procedure preparation is required on or before the day of your visit. Treatment areas are marked, and then you simply relax. Many people nap, read, watch a movie, or catch up on social media.

Depending on the area treated, flesh is pulled into the CoolSculpting device with gentle suction. (This is not necessary with some applicators.) You feel a sensation of intense cold for a few minutes, but no pain. At the end of treatment, fat feels firm and skin may look pink. The area is massaged to reduce these mild, temporary side effects. There is no downtime – you may return to work or other regular activities right away. However, we do ask that you drink additional water for a few days to aid in the fat removal process.

Over the next two to three months, change becomes noticeable as fat cells begin to break down. Full improvement is reached in four to five months.

Because CoolSculpting does not involve heat, medications, or invasive techniques, there is minimal risk of side effects. Some patients report stinging, tingling, aching, or numbness during treatment. Redness, blanching, bruising, firmness, tenderness, or skin sensitivity may persist for a few days or weeks.

Who is a suitable candidate?

CoolSculpting is NOT a weight loss program (although you may lose a few pounds), a treatment for obesity, an alternative to bariatric surgery, or a substitute for healthy eating and physical activity. However, if you are within about 20 pounds of sensible weight, CoolSculpting IS a terrific way to lose unwanted, stubborn fat from chin to ankles and anywhere in between.

We find CoolSculpting to be something of a “gateway” aesthetic treatment. Most patients are thrilled with results, developing a newfound sense of self-satisfaction. They may complement CoolSculpting with Ulthera skin tightening, laser hair removal, and a professional spray tan to look their best.
