Minimize the emotional cost of a scar with customized removal in Chicago

Acne is an enormous problem for some people, causing extensive skin irritation and a great deal of emotional distress. Dr. Jonith Breadon, board-certified dermatologist in Chicago, encourages acne-sufferers to seek professional care right away if their skin does not respond favorably to over-the-counter medications. In many cases, the use of commercial medication can further irritate the skin, increasing the risk of scarring. The cost of treatment is minimal, whether acne treatment or scar removal, compared to the lasting emotional toll of breakouts. In our Chicago office, we provide a number of treatment options, including those that accelerate the turnover of skin cells for greater skin health.

Chemical peels

A chemical peel is a fully customized procedure designed to accomplish specific goals. The intent of the chemical peel is to exfoliate, or remove the uppermost layer of skin. The way this goal is achieved is through the application of a specific chemical formulation. Chemical peels are safe and can be very comfortable and pampering. Depending on the extent of damage to the skin, Dr. Breadon will tailor a peel to be lighter or deeper. Most acne patients benefit greatly from light to medium peels that cause dead, damaged cells to fall away from the surface. What we aim to achieve with treatment is a reduction in debris and bacteria from the surface and clearer, unclogged pores. At the same time, we take care not to irritate highly sensitive skin.

Microdermabrasion

Many of those who want to minimize the immediate and long-term effects of acne, including minor scarring, choose controlled, manual exfoliation with microdermabrasion. Using specific techniques, our esthetician gently removes unhealthy cells from the epidermis with micro-crystals. As these tiny particles hit the skin, they cause the release of cells and debris, which are quickly suctioned away from the skin along with the exfoliating crystals.

In some cases, microdermabrasion can also include the delivery of nourishing ingredients to the skin. The SilkPeel Dermalinfusion™ Microdermabrasion treatment is ideal for many of our patients, as it is capable not only of soothing sensitive, acne-prone skin but also of pampering and revitalizing skin affected by aging. Unlike standard microdermabrasion, the SilkPeel does not exfoliate the skin with crystals. Instead, specially designed tips gently remove the top layer of skin for the desired result.
