Nationally known dermatologist in Chicago provides sclerotherapy to treat leg veins

Even during the summer months, some people avoid wearing shorts. Instead, they wear pants to hide leg veins that may be embarrassing. Fortunately, a nationally known dermatologist in Chicago can provide relief. Dr. Jonith Breadon and her team at Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery provide a solution that can restore beauty to the legs and renew the confidence to wear shorts again.

Blood vessels under the skin called spider and varicose veins can cause men and women to avoid showing off their legs. Spider veins are web-like and red, purple, and blue. Larger swollen and raised blood vessels are varicose veins. Both can appear on the legs and about 30 to 60 percent of adults develop them. However, the veins are more common among women. In addition to being unhappy with the appearance of the veins, some patients experience discomfort. Employees who stand for long periods are at higher risk of developing problematic veins. Nurses, factory workers, and hair stylists are just a few that may be at an increased risk. Other causes include genetics, health conditions, certain medications, and hormones. Using birth control, increased abdominal pressure, menopause, and pregnancy can lead to leg veins.

Dr. Breadon and her team provide sclerotherapy. For treatment, a solution called a sclerosant is injected into the blood vessels. A typical session is less than an hour. There is minimal downtime and the procedure is generally comfortable. After treatment, we will recommend wearing compression stockings for a week.

While the results are not instant, the vein will fade and eventually disappear permanently. Some patients may only need one treatment session. Dr. Breadon likes to see patients during a follow-up appointment a few weeks after the initial treatment. After achieving desired results, patients can look forward to showing off their legs during the warmer months of the year. Sclerotherapy also can provide relief from aching and pain that can stem from spider and varicose veins.

Do you have leg veins you wish would disappear? Sclerotherapy may be ideal for you. To explore your candidacy for treatment, schedule an appointment with Dr. Breadon by calling (855) 400-3818.
