Patients ask what to expect from a Sculptra treatment in Chicago, IL
Cosmetic injectables are popular methods to reduce wrinkles and add volume thus reducing the signs of aging.. In Chicago, IL, Dr. Jonith Breadon of Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery offers medical and cosmetic procedures to keep you looking as young as you feel. A Sculptra treatment is one way to add volume and to stimulate collagen production.
What is Sculptra?
Sculptra is unique and differs from other injectables. It is a facial volumizer that provides gradual natural lift and fills in wrinkles. It is injected into the skin to stimulate your own natural collagen production. Sculptra produces a natural look because it replaces lost collagen therefore restoring the structure of the skin. Results appear gradually without downtime.
With the aging process comes the breakdown of the skin’s building blocks. Our faces lose the youthful look. Beginning in our 30s, areas of the face begin to look hollowed. In our 40s, we lose facial fat or volume. By our 50s, we may begin to experience bone loss as well. This gradual loss results in lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and a sunken expression. Sculptra treats the loss and naturally, yet gradually, restores the youthful volume. Commonly injected areas include:
The templesHollows of the cheekNasolabial foldsCheek depressionsMarionette linesChin folds and wrinkles
Sculptra gradually replaces lost collagen to produce a younger, natural-looking result. It helps correct depressions in the skin such as wrinkles, folds, and creases. It is also used to correct volume and facial fat loss. The effects vary from patient to patient and touch up treatments may be needed to achieve and to maintain the desired result. Dr. Breadon can customize an appropriate treatment plan for your individual needs.

What to expect
Sculptra is slowly absorbed by the body and helps build new collagen. More than one treatment is needed. Most patients need a series of three treatments performed six weeks apart. Sculptra is most commonly used in the face. However, it does an excellent job at improving the wrinkles on the chest which are most commonly from sleeping on your side or from sun damage. Sculptra may be combined with other treatments to add fullness, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and to restore a more youthful appearance.
During your appointment, Dr. Breadon may ask about your history with injectables, your areas of concern, and your expectations to determine if Sculptra is appropriate. Sculptra is an excellent treatment for someone who is looking to restore and replace volume that has been lost naturally and slowly. Since more than one treatment is needed and it takes time for the new collagen to grow, it may not be appropriate for patients who desire more immediate results. The treatment is safe and effective at slowing the aging process while improving the tone and texture of the skin.
Sculptra is a generally easily tolerated treatment. Downtime is not needed. Most patients experience little to no side effects. Bruising at the injection site is possible. If you are prone to bruising, speak with your doctor about avoiding blood thinners prior to your appointment. After care instructions will be given. Ice packs can be used to minimize swelling. Your doctor may recommend daily short facial massages to help distribute the Sculptra evenly and to promote a natural-looking result. Avoid excessive sun exposure at least until the initial swelling and redness have disappeared.
The only downside to using Sculptra is that it takes time to see results. Initially, there is some swelling and fullness from the injections. This is due to the water in Sculptra. It gives you an idea of the anticipated outcome but fades after a couple days. The treatment starts to take effect as the body produces new natural collagen. Slowly, the tired, hollowed look fades and fullness begins to appear. The end result is a very natural, gradual look. Patients do not look overdone. Sculptra itself lasts up to two years but the effects can last much longer since it stimulates your own collagen production.
