Exploring treatment for spider veins
Regardless of the cause of spider veins, Dr. Breadon provides sclerotherapy to treat them. During a consultation appointment, she will examine your skin and review your medical history to determine if you are candidate for sclerotherapy. You will not be a candidate if you are taking birth control pills or if you are pregnant.
If you are a candidate for sclerotherapy, we will inject a sclerosant into the veins. The number of veins injected in a session depends on the size and location of them. The solution causes the lining to swell and stick together as well as the blood to clot. Eventually, they turn into scar tissues that fade away.
The number of treatment sessions varies based on your needs. Some patients may only need one treatment session to achieve optimal results. After treatment, you can look forward to no downtime, allowing you to return to work or other daily activities. Dr. Breadon recommends wearing compression stockings after treatment for a week. She also likes to see patients a few weeks after their initial treatment sessions to monitor their progress.
