Smoother, younger looking skin with injectables for the face in Chicago

Updated: Feb 26, 2019

Age can take its toll on our face, leaving deep folds and wrinkles where there once was fresh, smooth skin. Chances are, you’ve heard of Botox to relax and smooth out forehead lines, but did you know that there are other options? Xeomin is an injectable similar to Botox. At the Aesthetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery center in Chicago, we’ve had tremendous success helping patients look younger with Xeomin injections.

What is Xeomin?

Like Botox, Xeomin is derived from botulinum toxin type A. When Xeomin is injected into the face, it blocks the nerve signals that cause the muscles to contract. This temporary reduction in muscle activity allows the skin on the forehead to appear smoother, diminishing visible lines and wrinkles.

What to expect

Xeomin treatment is a quick procedure, usually done in fewer than 30 minutes. The Xeomin is injected directly into the muscles of the face. Xeomin injections do not require anesthesia, but a topical anesthetic can be used to minimize discomfort.

After the injections, patients can expect it to take up to a full week to begin seeing results. Side effects are generally minimal, but may include: redness, swelling, headaches, bruising, or mild pain around the injection sites. Results last about three months, after that time, the injections will need to be repeated to maintain results.

Xeomin vs. Botox

Xeomin and Botox are both derived from botulinum toxin A, however Xeomin does not contain any additives. The absence of this preservative protein allows Xeomin to begin bonding with the muscles immediately.
